Birth + Carnage is contemporary dance and media work by choreographer Marla Phelan and astrophysicist Dr. Blakesley Burkhart, moving between cosmic and intimate scales, using stellar birth as metaphor and structure. Fusing choreography, electronic music, and a video installation with shifting visual fields by reinfected.me creates a feedback loop between performance and media. Directed by Tim Richardson and presented at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, science is a compositional partner, shaping rhythm, scale, and sensation. I advised on technology approaches and feasibility, supporting partner recommendations to ensure media and systems design integrate with choreography and are achievable in a live performance.
